The Inspiration

In an online conversation undertaken by one of the team’s members, Kyle (they/he/she) recounts a memory of a family friend, who works as a manghuhula and uses playing cards in their sessions, unintentionally outing their gender to their mother and orientation despite Kyle being closeted as the manghuhula was reading out their mother’s fortune. Although initially believing the fortune referred to Kyle’s younger sister, this experience led Kyle to come out to their parents.

They thought it was my younger sister then they also thought that it's me... after the fortune telling session, I came out.

This visual novel takes inspiration from Kyle’s recounting of their story, in how despite the sudden predicament they were placed in in suddenly being outed of their sexuality, Kyle still placed courage in knowing that their parents, who supported the LGBTQ+ movement in their own ways, will support them no matter what. Kyle’s mentions of their girlfriend and younger sister were taken creative liberties in the visual novel, acting as Kay’s emotional support and advisors on what they should do.
